Year 6 Curriculum Overview

As from September 2014 all schools in England have been required to teach in line with the new curriculum.  What does that mean for your children?  Well here at Clarice Cliff Primary School we are developing a cross curricular curriculum which means that your child’s learning will be based on topics. Each year group has a selection of topics that they will cover and their classrooms will also reflect this learning in the displays created with the children.

Maths, English and Science continue to be the core subjects that are driven by these topics and we continue to assess the children in Maths and English half termly.  Expectations of each year group are made very clear in the new curriculum and every year group has been allocated a list of non-negotiables that they must meet by the end of the academic year for Reading, Writing and Maths.

Subjects such as Art, Design and Technology and Music are used to enhance lessons and our topics are driven by History and Geography.

In addition to this, we enhance the children’s interest and therefore their learning through educational visits that are linked to the topics and we arrange for a variety of visitors to come into school.
